“There is nothing more truly artistic than to love people.” Vincent van Gogh
Hello Friends!
Growing up in a family packed full of artists, creatives, florists, and designers, I marveled at the way their pencils danced into illustrations and flower arrangements divinely came together as the most magical backdrop for weddings.
My little brother, Michael has played a very influential role in my path to becoming an artist. At a young age he was diagnosed with Autism and my family navigated his struggles to communicate by using markers and lined notebooks. We drew, he found his words, and together we forged our path.
From the ages of ten to fourteen I would spend my weekends playing sports and volunteering at Our Lady of Peace, a Franciscan convent in Oregon. It didn’t take long for Michael to become fascinated with the convent, and he quickly found comfort in those women in habits who welcomed him with open arms.
Our drawings together evolved from vacuum cleaners and firetrucks to everything convent. My time in the car, at the dinner table, before bed, and all the moments in between were filled with drawing nuns, Christmas trees, and orange pumpkins. It was his way to regulate his nervous system and our way of connecting.
After graduating high school I earned both my undergraduate degree and Masters (MSW) from the University of Washington. My sights were set on pursuing a career in Social Work, but after the birth of my son I found myself pursuing another passion: art. It started with refining watercolor techniques and various forms of calligraphy before expanding to other mediums including gouache and acrylics where I fell in love with the complexity of developing a palate that fit my style.
Working with digital sketches soon followed, and a passion was quickly evolving to something more. Starbucks contracted me to design a line of retail drinkware. Local businesses were approaching me to design statement walls. Luxury home designers were requesting my originals for their clients. I also began conducting art workshops in exotic locations like the Grand Canyon and Yosemite National Park (and even out of my house on Zoom during Covid!).
Today I paint and illustrate daily. My style toggles between bold, black lines and muted smudgy colorful marks. Each piece created to be displayed in harmony with other pieces in the collection to bring walls to life. Regardless of the subject, my daily intention is to find peace in my work, and for that art to find its way into your home to amplify the beauty and experiences you hold.
